SARAI

Hi, I’m Sarai. I’m a very loving and smoochy 3-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross living with my foster family, in Auckland.

I love nothing more than baking in the sun.

I’ll laze round and follow the warm stuff, wherever it is.

My foster mum says I’m a “little sun pig.”

I’ve loved EVERY minute with my foster family so far.

And I’m grateful for even the smallest of things.

You see, I had a rough start in life – chained up for most of it – with limited access to shelter, food and water.

I even lost all my hair. I was an itchy flaky pain-ridden mess.

It’s hard remembering back to those long dark and lonely days.

Now, my hair has almost fully grown back; I’ve built muscle and gained weight.

I’m a strong, spritely and bouncy little pocket rocket now!

I’m making MASSIVE progress with my training as well.

Every morning now, I’m excited about what the day will bring!

I’ll do little spins for my foster mum, in anticipation.

Fortunately, despite being neglected for so long, I’m a very forgiving girl.

I still adore humans – especially children. I’m very respectful of them.

I’m a real people pleaser, my foster mum says.

When I first arrived here, to earn my trust, she hand fed me every meal, and we really bonded as a result.

I’m working hard with my training. I’ve learnt boundaries around food that I didn’t know before.

To have my meal, I must be a good girl – sit and wait patiently.

Sadly, blood tests, during a recent vet visit, showed I have stage 1 kidney disease, so I need a special diet now and some medication too.

But I’m a good girl and I’m grateful just to be otherwise healthy and feeling good in myself!

My foster family leave me home alone while they go to work each day and I’m very respectful round the house.

I’m crate-trained and love my little safe space. I’ve never had an accident inside the house or chewed anything I shouldn’t either.

My foster mum thinks a quieter cat-free home for me would be best.

A place with kind-hearted people – and children older than 7 – would be best.

You see, with me being a girl with a high prey drive, I wouldn’t want to chase and accidentally knock over any tiny ones.

I’d be happiest living as an only dog, since I’m not the friendliest with my fellow canines, you see.

I’m currently busy in training, which includes socialisation with other doggies.

I’m learning that maybe, one day, they might be friends too.

I’m far happier though on adventures with my human, exploring those quieter little-known walkways and trails, where we can have our own space.

Aside from my adventures out and about, I also enjoy chewing on my little unicorn.

Yep, I’m learning how much toys can enrich your life.

Destroying soft toys is a BLAST!

And fetching sticks is the ultimate. I love chewing them too!

My foster mum and I will be sad to part ways, but we’re both excited about what the future holds for me.

So, if you’re looking for a very kind-hearted loyal girl – that’ll bring a smile to your face every day – I hope you’ll consider welcoming ME into your life.

Can't adopt Sarai? You can still help.

Although we charge a small adoption fee, this doesn't generally cover the costs of us getting our dogs ready for adoption. Desexing, grooms, vet care, vaccinations, registration, training and variety of other things can go into these dogs. If you'd like to help either on a one off or regular basis we would be grateful for your donation.
